Overview
Hand a task to another AI agent from Claude Code. Claude keeps working and gets the result when it lands.
a2a-mod lets Claude Code hand a task to another AI agent and keep working while that agent runs. When the agent finishes, Claude gets the result and picks up where it left off. The agents speak A2A (Agent2Agent), an open protocol that lets agents built on different frameworks talk to each other; here we call such an agent a worker: an ADK, AG2 or LangGraph agent, or anything built on @a2a-js/sdk.
Install
/plugin marketplace add NovusEdge/a2a-mod
/plugin install a2a-mod@a2a-modNeeds Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, the first release with mods.

What it looks like
You add a worker once. After that you ask Claude to use it in plain words:
/a2a add http://127.0.0.1:41241 fake
send "slow 20 build" to the fake worker
fake is working on it (task 3f9a…, working). Carry on with other work.
A2A task finished: fake task 3f9a… is completed. done: buildThe last two lines are what Claude sees. A slow task never blocks Claude: after a few seconds it gets a task id and moves on, and the mod wakes it when the worker is done. How it works has the details.
Words used in these docs
- Worker: an agent that takes tasks over A2A. You register it with
/a2a add. - Agent Card: the JSON file a worker publishes at
/.well-known/agent-card.json. It names the worker, lists its skills and says where to send requests. - Task: one piece of work you gave a worker. It has an id and a state, such as
workingorcompleted. - Wake: the message the mod sends Claude when a background task ends. It shows as one line, such as
a2a: fake task 3f9a… completed.
Where to go next
- Quick start runs the repo's fake worker, so you can try the mod without a real agent.
- The UI covers the status line, the workers pane and the layouts.
- Commands and tools covers
/a2aand the five tools Claude sees. - Worker tokens explains how a worker gets its bearer token.
- How it works follows a task from
sendto the wake-up. - Troubleshooting lists the messages the mod prints and what to do about each.
- Write a worker builds a minimal worker with @a2a-js/sdk.
- Protocol support lists the A2A versions, methods and limits.
- Security says where tokens are kept and how to report a vulnerability.
